Wind Risk Dashboard
The Kite Wind Risk Dashboard is designed to help sites minimise the risk of strong winds causing disruptions to operations.
Dashboard Features:
Cards showing a daily summary of hours with low, moderate, high and extreme wind risk.
Daily cards are presented for today, the last 6 days and the next 6 days. You can navigate by using the arrows.
Note that a “Day” is taken from 6 am to 6 am. For example, Today is from 6 am today until 6 am tomorrow.
Detailed hourly data can be seen as a table (select Table tab) or Graph (select Graph tab). The tabs are located above the table/graph on the left-hand side.
If you have your weather station set up to send data to Kite this is shown in the table in bold and is presented on the graph as a solid line.
You can extend the data viewed on the Graph by clicking on the All button, located in the top left-hand side of the graph window.
The table’s hourly variables consist of wind direction, wind speed, wind gust at different heights above ground level, and coloured wind risk levels. These are based on the thresholds specified below.
Risk Levels:
The Wind Risk is set based on the following:
Risk Level | Wind Gust (km/hr) | Description |
---|---|---|
Moderate | 20 - 38 | Moderate Breeze: Raises dust and loose paper; small branches moved. |
High | 38 - 50 | Strong Breeze: Large branches in motion; whistling heard in telegraph wires; umbrellas used with difficulty. |
Extreme | > 50 | Near Gale: Whole trees in motion; inconvenience felt when walking against the wind. |
You can also choose to set Wind Direction Sectors, which are wind directions at which certain alerts will be triggered. These are fully customisable. For example, you can choose for wind risk to be considered “High” or “Extreme” whenever the wind direction is towards a high-risk area for your site.
This dashboard would be useful for contexts such as:
Operations involving large areas of exposed ground that are susceptible to wind-blown dust, utilising the features of this dashboard as well as the Dust Risk Dashboard.
Container terminals having stacked containers with a high risk of being pushed over in windy conditions.
Construction sites having temporary structures which could be blown over, or a high risk of equipment being blown off the worksite or falling from work at elevation.
